Whether you are a traveler visiting Chiang Mai for the first time or an expat who has lived here for a while, one thing that you do not need to worry about is finding international hospitals or clinics. While Chiang Mai is relatively small, there are an abundant number of both hospitals and clinics available for both Thais and foreigners. The northern Thai city is known for its affordable yet world-class healthcare. Many retirees decide to settle in Chiang Mai because of this—in addition to wanting to live in this idyllic city. The hospitality of the Thai people, famously known as part of their culture, is beautifully translated into the core of their healthcare. Thai medical professionals—doctors, nurses, hospice workers, and other trained caregivers—are well-trained and their attitude toward patients are warm, sympathetic and helpful.
Many of Chiang Mai-based physicians and specialists were educated abroad so not only are they adept in contemporary medical practice; they are also proficient in English so language barrier is not an issue.
The majority of nurses and caregivers also speak decent English and their hospitality means that they will go an extra mile to make sure you are in good hands. Some hospitals also employ interpreters and they will assist the medical professionals when it is necessary.
A lot of physicians and specialists who work at a hospital open their own clinics. Rest assured that going to a clinic does not mean that you will receive less expertise than going to a hospital.
You can set up an appointment to see a doctor at a clinic but most of the time you can use their walk-in service. Clinics usually have a general practitioner who will be there to oversee the patients and they can prescribe a medicine or refer you to a specialist if needed.
HUGSA Medical Clinic
Background
In 2010, HUGSA Medical Clinic was established following an idea from our team to create a value-based healthcare clinic where every single patient receives close, compassionate, and caring attention.
Rapee Lertpongpiroon, MD., the founder of HUGSA Medical, said the idea came after he often saw patients had to wait long for an appointment. The healthcare services, in his view, were sometimes low-standard and complicated.
He added that At HUGSA Medical, the idea is not just about ensuring the patient’s health, but also about connecting with the patient and maintaining their general well-being.
“Our value-based approach helps us to strive for the best, holistic care for our patients by simplifying the solution–low-cost, fast, and efficient—and not to complicate them even further.”
He added that many people have suggested that Thailand will soon become one of the top-ranked healthcare hubs in Asia.
“Our aim is to ensure that our high-quality healthcare clinics are accessible for everyone from those who reside in the centers of the city to those who live in both rural and remote areas and, eventually, border areas so we can also provide treatment for patients from Laos, Myanmar and Cambodia.”
